Purple Day 5k for Epilepsy

On Saturday March 24th I had the opportunity to run in the first Annual Purple Day 5k for Epilepsy. This will go down as one of the most heart warming, memorable races I have ever done.

This race was created by some of my most dearest friends, The Green Family: Greg, Angela, Gabe, Marisa, and the inspiration for it all, Natalie. Natalie is 11 years old and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy when she was 8 months old.

I decided that I wanted to race and support this great cause and my friends to help find a cure for Epilepsy. Purple is the color to support Epilepsy so of course, if you know me, you go big or you go home and so I went big and bought me a purple morph suit that covered my entire body, head to toe in purple awesomeness! You should have seen Natalie's face when I showed up decked out in my purple-tastic outfit, priceless!

There were 160 runners/walkers at this race and an amazing group called Push to the Finish that pushed 3 kids from the Epilepsy Association of Utah to the finish line of this 5k, it was awesome to witness their smiles!

The Triple Threat Triathletes group that I am part of came all decked out in purple to support the cause!

The energy was on fire at this race, my face hurt from smiling so much. Also, along the run were some of the most precious motivating pictures that South Jordan Elementary drew to help keep us going, they made tears come to my eyes and they were a great reminder of why we were out there running!

I finished 17th overall & 4th in my age division and my time was 29 minutes. I was so caught up in the magic of the race that those numbers didn't matter, they make me happy, but that is not why I was there.

I'm back! For Realzies!

Okay, so it is time I am serious about posting my progress. This year I have lost a lot, but gained it right back as soon as I stopped moving. I got into bad habits with eating and sleeping and now I regret not keeping up with the workouts and healthy eating habits, even though I was burnt out, it was not worth gaining it back. It comes on faster than it goes, now the hard work starts over again. Someday I will learn, I hope... I am, however, proud to list my accomplishments: 3 5ks so far 1 10 k 1 15 k 2 half marathons so far On Sept. 11th I will be running in my first relay race. I am very excited but I have 3 legs to run in 24 hours: Leg 1= 6.5 Leg 2= 6.3 Leg 3= 3.9 I also plan on running at least 2 more half marathons this year. My new adventure in weight loss starts on Monday, May 24th. I joined a local Boot Camp for 3 months, so by Aug. 23rd I Will be looking good. I will be working out 5 days a week at 5:30 am. Yeah, crazy I know! I really want to push myse...

Red Rock Relay: Zion

Three years ago I ran my first relay race, Red Rock Relay Zion , with Team Herriman Hotties. I was already in the middle of my weight loss journey but I was struggling with losing weight, I didn't know I had PCOS or Insulin Resistance at the time but I was eating right and exercising all the time. This wonderful group of Women let me be part of this amazing team, they loved and accepted me how I was and cheered me on, every step of the way. I was runner # 4 with a total of 18.5 miles to complete over 3 runs in 24 hours time. I had the best time running with these women in this beautiful relay race across Southern Utah that started at Brian Head Ski Resort and Finished at Zion's National Park. Herriman Hotties has had several different runners over the years due to people needing to drop off the team for various reasons. In total, there are 21 Herriman Hottie Alumni, and we all have a very strong bond. I love each of these women, they all inspire me, motivate me and make me ...

Day three: Different Trainer

Wow, can I say that I am sore from the stairs yesterday!? Sore in places I did not know I had muscles! That aside, today was a great workout. We had a different trainer today, she was awesome and pushed us hard. It is nice having two different trainers that work you till you drop. They have different styles so I think it is great to get pushed in different ways and work different muscles. I am starting to get to know some of the people in the class, all very nice. Day 3 was great, I am starting to feel really good. Last night my sleep wasn't the greatest, I kept waking up every hour thinking I would not get up in time and miss my alarm. My soreness levels: Monday's workout I could feel today and was about a 3 out of 10 in soreness. Tuesday's workout I would say was around a 7 or 8  out of 10 mostly in my legs. Biggest loser was great last night, go Mike! We had biggest loser party at my friends house with healthy snacks and food. Good times! I can't believe we...
